Message of the Week 11/28/2025

Yesterday was Thanksgiving, a holiday that reminds us of everything we should be thankful for, and a time to spend with family and friends. I am thankful for the entire staff of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, sworn, non-sworn, and volunteers alike. The effort and work product being delivered is exceptional, professional, and consistently getting better!

In last week’s message of the week, I wrote how the holidays can be tough and mental health issues seem to peak during holiday times. Just from our day shift on Wednesday, to me writing this message (0600 Friday), the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has had four taser deployments, a suspect shot a spear gun at our car, multiple fights with our deputies, and a shooting in Silver Springs. All the suspects were subsequently arrested, and our deputies are going to be ok.

Our Deputies, Dispatchers, and Control Room Operators work through the holidays, away from their families, to ensure the safety of our communities. While many of us spend time indoors with our loved ones, they’re working and working hard. I know they’re compensated for it; however, they should know that I am proud of them, that our community is proud of them, and their families are proud of them. When you see them throughout the community, thank them for their service; it goes a long way.

Respectfully,

Sheriff Brad Pope

P.S.

In keeping with Thanksgiving tradition, the Lions lost.
